Boating at Camp Far West Lake

Russ at 11:14AM

On Friday Matt took his boat out for the first time of the year and invited Ethan, Mel, Carrie and me along with his daughter for the day. The six of us met at Safeway in Lincoln to purchase food and drinks before heading to Camp Far West Lake. Ethan, Carrie and I got a chance to wakeboard and all of us got whipped around the lake in the three person tube, I definitely fell more than anyone else. At the end of the day, before Matt got his turn to wakeboard and show us how it is done, the boat decided not to fire up again. Unfortunately, we had to be towed in by a fellow boater. Before arriving home we stopped at Old Town Pizza for dinner. The good news is that Matt’s boat is now working and it didn’t cost him anything to fix, so we are all looking forward to day number 2 on the lake! View pictures from the day here.

First Bowling League in 5 Years

Russ at 12:24PM

After a five year hiatus I will be returning to bowling leagues, and not just for the Summer, but for good! After a stupid college accident (me thinking I could fly?) I injured myself at the end of the collegiate season before Nationals. After many months of physical therapy my ankle wouldn’t let me return to bowl again in college. After almost two years I did return to bowl a Winter league in Grass Valley at Prospector Lanes, I averaged maybe 170 (league high average, horrible house). To my frustration and lack of communication with people whom I had grown to love in Sacramento in previous years I let my love for bowling diminish. I haven’t touched a ball since except for maybe 2-3 drunken nights with friends, which is hardly what I was committed to in a previous life. I told myself I didn’t miss it, I didn’t need it, I only love in when I’m in an establishment, but none of those things are true. I used to be good, really good some would have said, and I feared that I would just be some other casual league bowling nobody if I were to ever return. Well all of those thoughts are gone and I’m ready to be back — truth-be-told I REALLY miss bowling and thanks to a good friend Russell Roach, I am coming back! Russell and I attended a baby shower at Country Club lanes last month and he asked me to bowl a Summer league with him on Monday nights at Crestview. So, tonight is my first night back, and it might be a horrible display of a washed up ex-bowler, and it isn’t always going to be that way… I will practice and become what I once was. Watch out you Winter Scratch league wannabes, Russ is comin’ for ya!

West Coast Brew Fest 2009 Recap

Russ at 10:19PM

After having an amazing get-together at the house last night that lasted until the wee hours of the morning, Morgan, Ethan, Mandy, Ben and I rallied for West Coast Brew Fest at Miller Park. As some of you may know, we are selling Sample Glass Necklaces this year in order to fund our brew fest trips. We had an Easy-Up today to vend our wares from today, 92 were sold in all. The event was great, despite the heat and there was plenty of shade to hide in. A few breweries brought out some treasures, and it was awesome to walk around the event getting samples with no lines and getting first dibs of all the shwag. I definitely want to make that a habit. The WCBF is the best brew fest in Sacramento and I’ll be returning next year, for sure. See pictures from the brew fest here.

West Coast Brew Fest 2009

Russ at 7:29PM

May 16th at 1PM is when the 10th Annual West Coast Brew Fest in Miller Park Sacramento gets underway. Morgan and I haven’t been to this event in the past but this year we hooked up with some people and are having a Vendor Booth! I will be bringing at least 180 sample glass holding necklaces and selling them for $5 each to fellow festers. Five of us will be roaming the festival and working the booth throughout the day while sampling some of the West Coast’s best beers from 60 different breweries! Be sure to check back after the weekend to see how the event was, view our pictures, and see if we will be making this vending gig a regular summer affair. For more information view the WCBF website.
